Finally…less talk, more action!

Posted by Pam: Kudos to the city of Taylor! I’ve never been one to think of Downriver as a place of environmental innovation and leadership, but I recently read an article in the Detroit News that changed my mind.

A glimmer of hope shot through my pessimistic body as I read that the city of Taylor started an alternative energy project - ”the first of its kind in the state and [one] that is expected to slash utility costs at the farm by 40 percent and, through education, accelerate other alternative endeavors in the region”. It’s encouraging to see that instead of waiting for the Michigan state legislature to put aside its bipartisan bickering and lobbyist strongholds, some cities like Taylor are taking alternative energy into their own hands.

It’s about time communities stopped talking about alternative energy that will take Michigan into the 21st century and STARTED producing alternative energy!

I know there are other cities out there -like Ann Arbor, Sturgis, Grand Rapids- that have started similar plans….maybe if every city in Michigan takes a leadership role in effective and efficient alternative energy policy, then the State will have to follow--my fingers are crossed!
