You Helped Us Do It!
On Friday, The U.S. House of Representatives passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (ACES), by a vote of 219 to 212. For the first time ever, America has a comprehensive clean energy and global warming bill with the potential to transform our economy by creating clean energy jobs, improving our national security, and protecting our planet from global warming pollution.
We applaud Michigan Representatives John Dingell, John Conyers, Mark Schauer, Gary Peters, Sander Levin, Dale Kildee, Bart Stupak, and Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, who voted to create jobs, move to clean energy, and reduce global warming pollution. Passing this bill in the House wasn't easy; it took hard work and some tough compromises to get it done. Thanks to their vote, America is firmly on track to be a leader in the 21st century global economy.
Please call the U.S. House of Representatives switchboard operator at (202) 224-3121 to thank these members of the Michigan delegation who voted for our clean energy future.
Michigan LCV was in the fight of our lives to secure passage of the bill. This historic victory for the environment could not have happened without supporters like you. In the days before the vote, we asked for your support and participation in calling, writing, faxing and emailing your Member of Congress to vote for this landmark act. Many of you took valuable time out of your day to take these steps, and press upon your Representative the importance of clean energy and climate policy.
Now, the bill will move to the Senate, where it needs to be strengthened and delivered to the President's desk. With the help of Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, we can deliver President Obama strong clean energy and climate legislation that will create clean energy jobs, reduce our dependence on dirty fuels and lead the world's effort to slow down global warming. Our Senators also need to hear from you your support and encouragement that this bill should move forward.
The fight in the Senate will not be easy, but I assure you, Michigan LCV will be doing everything in our power to see this legislation becomes law.
We need your support! Please support our efforts and check back here often to find up-to-the-minute information on the progress of this bill and other legislation affecting Michigan. We will keep you up to speed on developments as they happen.
Thank you for your support of Michigan LCV, for the messages you send to your leaders, and for all that you do for our state.
