Legislators gone wild?!
Ok, they probably haven't "gone wild", but perhaps just "gone". Michigan LCV wanted to remind you that - in theory - the state legislature is on a two-week spring break. You see, IF you wanted, you could find your representatives in-district and could meet with them. But don’t take our word for it. You will need to call your lawmaker’s office to find their whereabouts.
This morning on Michigan Radio, political analyst Jack Lessenberry (pictured here) filled us in on what may really be going on during this spring break. With term limits, most of our state’s lawmakers are running for other office. Jack suggested that most legislators are using the break as an opportunity for campaigning instead of for committee meetings or budget discussions to sort out Michigan's precarious financial situation before the looming July 1st deadline. The budget is actually due in October, but that's awfully close to the November elections. So while our legislators are out stumping the campaign trail, Michigan still faces a deficit, is staring down major cuts (especially in education) and hasn't come up with a way to adequately fund our DNRE.
