Fundraising, Politicians, and Tornadoes ... Oh My

On the banks of the Huron River last week, Michigan LCV held its first fundraiser of the election season in the magnificent home of Brian Athey and Deborah Walker.

We welcomed a large group of supporters, donors, and politicians to aid in our efforts to keep Michigan’s natural resources intact. While it was not a perfect day, the party was everything we could have asked for and more.

After a bout of downpours followed by a tornado warning, everyone gathered around the dining room table for drinks, hors d’oeuvres and a keynote speech from Rosina Bierbaum, member of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) at the National Academy of Sciences and Dean of the School of Natural Resources and the Environment at the University of Michigan.. Conversations were plentiful as we had everyone in attendance from Henry & Lana Pollack and Debbie Dingell, to our endorsed politicians Mayor Hieftje, Ned Staebler and a representative from Virg Bernero’s campaign. With an open opportunity, it became a fantastic time to understand why these people deserve your vote, and also a chance to get to know them. The night was brought to an end by the fabulous piano skills of Kathryn Goodson and singing skills of young Teddy Staebler.

Our generous host committee put together this wonderful event and we want to thank them along with our board members. Michigan LCV would also like to thank Brian and Deborah for opening their beautiful home to all of us. And a huge thanks to all who attended, because without you, we could not keep up the immensely important work that we do. These events are a great place to get to know your politicians. We hope to see everyone in attendance at our next fundraiser.
