Good Michigan Environmental News in the Midst of Bad
Right now, it's easy to believe there is nothing but bad news in terms of Michigan's environment.
The chance of a comprehensive climate bill in Congress is dead, the Kalamazoo River is swirling with oil, the DeVos family has decided to throw thousands of dollars into an important state Senate race in Washtenaw County, and experts are saying a recovery in the Gulf of Mexico will be even more difficult than expected.
But ... there is potentially some good news around the corner come Aug. 3. Recent polls in the Democratic gubernatorial primary and the Republican gubernatorial primary show that both of our endorsed gubernatorial candidates, Virg Bernero and Rick Snyder are leading in the final stretch to the election. We are also working hard in Washtenaw County races and strongly reaching out to voters to speak up for Rebekah Warren and Ned Staebler's environmental leadership and drown out the DeVos influence.
Despite tough odds, we believe our candidates are in good shape going into these contentious Tuesday primaries. We are grateful for all the help and support that our staff, interns, board members, and volunteers are pouring into our races across the state.
If you would like to join the Michigan LCV team in getting our candidates throughout the state across the finish line and on their way to the general election in November, please e-mail our Political Director, Ryan Werder, at ryan@michiganlcv.org or call our office at (734) 222-9650. We will be knocking on doors all day Monday across the state and running a phone bank from our Ann Arbor office throughout the day on Tuesday.
Despite all the bad news, it is up to us to generate some good news on Tuesday. Be sure to be informed, be sure to volunteer, and be sure to vote.
