Granholm Speaks on Michigan's Energy Future
Jennifer Granholm spoke in Washington, D.C today to mark the anniversary of a $1.3 billion investment from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in battery technology production for electric cars based in Michigan. This show of confidence in our state remains an important element in making environmentally friendly autos a viable alternative to heavy polluters. Granholm was introduced by Sarah Rosen Wartwell, Executive Vice President at the Center for American Progress. Wartwell described Granholm's eight year commitment to building a green economy in the state of Michigan and added that she believed that it is not the only answer to current problems, but that it also provides the key to future growth.
Governor Granholm pointed out that the state's economic future depends on the ability to diversify into new sectors and highlighted the crucial nature of expanding into clean energy. This makes the investment in research and development of sustainable technologies, like advanced battery manufacturing, vital for both economic and environmental purposes.
