Clean Energy Candidates Enjoy Support, Poll Finds

What's good for Michigan's environment also is good for Congressional candidates.

A new study finds that voters are more likely to support House incumbents who support energy bills that curb climate change pollution. The study, from Oct. 8-15, examined 23 key Congressional Districts, including District 7, where incumbent Mark Schauer is running for re-election. The poll was conducted by Public Policy Polling for the NRDC Action Fund.

When examining voter support for clean energy legislation and lawmakers who support the American Clean Energy and Securities Act, there was a clear majority in 21 out of 23 races for the incumbents who support clean energy legislation.

In this upcoming election, issues such as clean energy and climate change could play a vital role in determining electoral outcomes and eventually which party controls the House of Representatives. While there are many issues contested during this election year, it is vital that candidates do not neglect the issue of clean energy, which translates into electoral support.

This is good news for Mark Schauer, who is running against Tim Walberg. Walberg is notorious as a repeat offender on the LCV’s Dirty Dozen list. Hopefully, this study will result in aiding Schauer in a close campaign.
