Tell Saugatuck Township Officials No Means No
On July 18th Saugatuck Township will hold a public hearing on Aubrey McClendon’s dangerous and greedy settlement deal. If you want to take action before the hearing, write to the Saugatuck Township officials and tell them how you really feel about the settlement. Here is an example letter adapted from a Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance piece. You might want to include what the dunes mean to you: whether it was a special weekend spent along the shore of Lake Michigan or nightly walks through the dunes’ pristine sands. If you’re short on time just copy, paste, and send.
It appears that the real purpose of Mr. McClendon’s lawsuits is to discourage public participation, discredit local community leaders, bankrupt our local government, and thereby drive behind closed doors all future Township permitting processes affecting Mr. McClendon’s properties.
With the proposed settlement he would be exempt from following the planning process that you and I must follow. All laws should pertain to all people. No one is above the law and no one should be allowed to buy a new set of laws.
I do not support the proposed settlement as it places McClendon's land into a 'lawless' zone. I propose an open discussion of development proposals and how they relate to the community’s needs and plans, not just Mr. McClendon’s.
Sincerely,
YOUR NAME HERE
