The 2012 Republican Presidential Primary is too close to call these days and the February 28th Michigan primary is no exception. Our state is in a unique position; over the next two weeks we will receive attention from Republican candidates and the national media. What better time to ask our future Republican candidates to work on behalf of Michigan’s environment and pledge action on some of the very real threats, like Asian carp.

Michigan has an abundance of beautiful lakes, streams, beaches, and forests, which makes it important to elect conservation champions to protect our precious lands. Michigan LCV and The League of Conservation Voters have not yet endorsed a candidate in the 2012 Presidential election. However, you will soon have the opportunity to ask Republican candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum to pledge to protect the lands and waters of the Great Lakes state from invasive species, excessive drilling, and dirty air.

Governor Mitt Romney will be appearing in Grand Rapids for a “Welcome Home” rally on February 15th, in Novi on February 16th, and at the Detroit Economic Club February 24th. Click for more on Mitt Romney's scheduled stops in Michigan.

Senator Rick Santorum will also be taking in a little Pure Michigan; the Senator is scheduled to appear before Detroit Economic Club and the Oakland County Republican Party on February 16th. See more on Rick Santorum's Michigan schedule here.

Let’s be sure to give these presidential candidates a warm welcome and remind them that Michigan voters want to protect Michigan’s most precious lands, waters, and resources.
