Michigan LCV Launches 'Candidate Tracker' for Governor's Race

Exactly two months before Election Day, the Michigan League of Conservation Voters will go live with its “Candidate Tracker,” an online tool that will follow gubernatorial candidates Rick Snyder and Virg Bernero on the campaign trail. Issues surrounding conservation values and the creation of a sustainable economy will be highlighted.

The tool is available at michiganlcv.org/tracker and officially goes live on Thursday, Sept. 2.

Michigan Sen. John Pappageorge is one of only 12 candidates for state office named to a first-time, state-level Dirty Dozen list by the National League of Conservation Voters.

Michigan AG Cox Holds Polluting Politician John Pastor Accountable

Leading environmental advocacy groups today praised Attorney General Mike Cox for punishing land developer and politician John Pastor after his company destroyed wetlands and polluted public streams.

Pastor, a former state representative, was fined $35,000 and ordered to repair damage to wetlands in Salem Township.

'Small Wind' Incentives At Free Workshops Throughout Michigan

Small Wind: Will It Work for You? A pair of Michigan State University agricultural economists are holding presentations throughout the state to help answer that question. The talks run from Tuesday through Sept. 9.

Steve Harsh and Lynn Hamilton, with MSU's Department of Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics, will be speaking in seven counties about using small wind turbines to power farms, homes and businesses.

Holland Coal Plant Can't Expand, Michigan DNRE Says

Michigan regulators said today that the Holland Board of Public Works has failed to demonstrate the need for an expanded coal plant in the city. 

Plans called for 78 more megawatts of coal-fired power. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment says the Holland board has failed to show the need for the expansion and hadn't fully explored other energy generation options.

In the 2010 Michigan Primary Election for Governor, the Michigan League of Conservation Voters endorsed Rick Snyder on the Republican side of the ballot and Virg Bernero on the Democratic side and, today, issued open letters of congratulations to both.

Rebekah Warren Wins 18th Senate Primary

Rebekah Warren is advancing to November. Voters solidly chose Warren in today's Democratic primary elections to represent the 18th Senate District, AnnArbor.com reports. 

The Michigan League of Conservation Voters endorsed Warren in the primary.
