Exactly two months before Election Day, the Michigan League of Conservation Voters will go live with its “Candidate Tracker,” an online tool that will follow gubernatorial candidates Rick Snyder and Virg Bernero on the campaign trail. Issues surrounding conservation values and the creation of a sustainable economy will be highlighted.

The tool is available at michiganlcv.org/tracker and officially goes live on Thursday, Sept. 2.

“In the primary, we took the opportunity to endorse each of these candidates in their respective races and were very pleased to see them each win,” said Lisa Wozniak, executive director for Michigan LCV.

“Now, though, it is time to hold them accountable through the remainder of the election. We will use the good standing we have in both campaigns to ensure that they each remain committed to the conservation values and clean energy economy they advocated in the primaries. Our 'Candidate Tracker' will do just that.”

Ryan Werder, Michigan LCV political director, said, “Michigan is in the fortunate position of choosing between two candidates for governor who have taken strong positions on protecting Michigan’s natural resources. But the question we keep getting is, 'Which one is actually better, Snyder or Bernero?'

"Rather than answering for the candidates, we are going to let them speak for themselves. Each time their campaigns touch on the conservation concerns of Michigan citizens and the creation of green jobs --- whether positively or negatively --- we will log it on our 'Candidate Tracker.'”

So far, Michigan LCV has not endorsed a gubernatorial candidate in the general election. The "Candidate Tracker" will provide a chronological listing of the entries so voters can consistently check on the most recent news. Michigan LCV also provides an in-depth, head-to-head comparison of the candidates in its “Charting the Governor’s Race” document.

Michigan LCV is a non-partisan, non-profit organization, with offices in Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor, which seeks to turn environmental goals into legislative and community priorities by electing, educating, and holding officials accountable for their votes and actions.
