A Q&A with producer William Wright will follow the film. \nTroubled Water chronicles a 36-day\, 425-mile journey on standup paddleboards along the Great Lakes. The film is directed by Davis Huber and produced by William Wright and Chris Yahanda. \nThe idea was sparked by the three friends on their summer paddle trip down Michigan’s west coast. Chris received a text alert that a judge had temporarily shut down Line 5 after Canadian oil company Enbridge failed to abide by the State’s shutdown order. As the sun set over Lake Michigan\, these lifelong friends couldn’t help but wonder\, “How can any Michigander stomach the risk of an oil spill on this coastline?” \nInspired to do something\, they created a film to shed light on the manmade impacts of Michigan’s freshwater\, including the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline\, which carries nearly 23 million gallons of crude oil and natural gas liquids daily beneath the Straits of Mackinac. \nSean McBrearty\, Oil & Water Don’t Mix Campaign Coordinator\, said Troubled Water is a great way to bring public awareness to the risks associated with Line 5. “Everybody who wants to get involved – who cares about the Great Lakes and wants to protect them and make sure we don’t have a crucial oil spill – has a role to play\, whether it’s something large or something small\,” he said. “I’m very grateful for the role Chris\, William\, and their crew have played.”

DESCRIPTION:Ardea Youth Climate Coalition Presents Youth PowerPalooza: Fueling Clean Energy! \nJoin us and meet some amazing People\, eat Pizza\, and build youth Power – we will have action opportunities to protect our people and planet. \nDate: Thursday\, November 2nd\, 2023 Time: 3:00-6:00 pm Location: The ‘flagpoles” on WMU Main Campus (plaza at the corners of Wood Hall\, the Lee Honors College\, Sangren Hall\, and the new Student Center) \nThe Ardea Youth Climate Coalition is proud to present Youth PowerPalooza: Fueling Clean Energy\, a youth-centered clean energy event aimed at empowering Kalamazoo’s young population to directly engage with our democracy and advocate for Michigan’s Clean Energy Future Plan. \nFree pizza and light refreshments will be provided\, and a live acoustic band will perform during a portion of the event. \nThe event will feature tables from many local climate organizations with information on current clean energy legislation and developments\, focusing on work from local youth-led groups. We will have platforms for direct civic engagement\, allowing attendees to voice their support for 100% Clean Energy by speaking directly to state legislators via phone calls and/or letters\, in addition to speeches from the youth organizers\, prominent community members\, and an open mic for participants to voice their concerns about the climate crisis and clean energy. City\, County\, and State legislators have been invited to attend\, providing a unique opportunity for youth voices to directly reach those in positions of power.
