Consumers Energy has stated keeping the Campbell Coal Plant running is costing $615,000 a day
The J.H. Campbell coal plant in West Olive is one of Michigan’s last coal plants and a major cause of pollution for West Michigan communities. Due to its cost and age, it was scheduled to shut down in May, but the Trump administration issued an order forcing it to stay open. Keeping the coal plant running is costing $615,000 a day and Consumers Energy is now trying to shift those costs onto Michiganders’ energy bills.
Michiganders already pay the highest energy costs in the Midwest for some of the worst reliability in the entire country. Our energy bills are too damn high. We can’t afford another rate hike to keep the Campbell plant open.

Michigan deserves better. Add your name to demand that President Trump and Congress stop this costly coal bailout, let J.H. Campbell close for good, and stop raising our energy bills →
Consumers Energy stated previously closing the plant would save Michigan ratepayers $600 million on energy costs by 2040
We don’t need Campbell for our energy needs. According to the Midcontent Independent System Operator, Consumers Energy has plenty of energy generating capacity to replace the Campbell plant
The J.H. Campbell plant is bad for our Great Lakes. It releases roughly 100,000 pounds of water pollution in Lake Michigan every year, including 10,000 pounds of toxic metals
