Rallying for climate action in Detroit
In February, hundreds of Michiganders braved snowy weather and joined the Michigan LCV team in Detroit to send a strong message to the Trump administration and Congress in the face of ongoing efforts to cut critical environmental protections, regulatory frameworks, and clean energy funding – actions that could have lasting, harmful consequences for communities across the state. Held at the Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation in partnership with the Climate Action Campaign and 27 local and state organizations, the rally featured speeches from U.S. Representatives Debbie Dingell and Rashida Tlaib, and Detroit City Councilwoman Gabriela Santiago-Romero, each of whom condemned the dangerous, unconstitutional funding cuts by the Trump administration and the real-world impacts of toxic air and water pollution and urged residents to demand action from lawmakers at every level. |

Coming just hours after news broke that hundreds of EPA employees in Michigan had been fired, Rep. Dingell emphasized that Trump’s proposed cuts to clean energy and environmental funding would disproportionately harm communities already facing significant pollution and environmental risks, while Rep. Tlaib called out the unconstitutional attempts by the administration to dismantle the very protections that ensure clean air, safe drinking water, and public health. In addition to our elected leaders, speakers also included youth activists from 482Forward, who highlighted the devastating effects of environmental injustice, including pollution from local sources like the DTE coke plant, and underscored the urgent need for stronger climate policies to protect public health and the environment. |

In Michigan, we have been working hard to cut pollution, lower energy costs, and create clean energy jobs – and we have made incredible progress in recent years. After passing historic clean energy policies, we are reducing carbon emissions, lowering energy costs, and creating thousands of good-paying jobs – but Trump’s unlawful cuts to critical federal clean energy funding already approved by Congress are blocking progress and hurting our communities. Now, critical programs are at risk, leaving Michigan communities with higher costs, more pollution, and fewer opportunities. We can’t sit by and let Trump take away our hard-earned progress. Tell Congress: Protect clean energy funding for the programs Michigan families, workers, and businesses are counting on → |
