$2 million ‘Our Bills Are Too Damn High’ state legislative blitz taps into voter anger on energy bills, data centers

Campaign targets six pivotal state House districts and three state Senate races

LANSING – The “Our Bills Are Too Damn High!” statewide campaign continued its momentum today, announcing an aggressive $2 million blitz in pivotal, battleground state legislative races – aimed at electing candidates who will fight to hold our monopoly utility companies accountable, crack down on data centers, and lower energy bills.

The independent expenditure program — officially launched in September by Conservation Voters of Michigan PAC – taps into voter anger about skyrocketing energy bills, repeated outages, and the way monopoly utility influence is fueling unchecked data center development. The $2 million effort draws sharp contrast between lawmakers and candidates fighting back, and those who cozy up to Big Utilities and Big Tech.

“Michiganders are rightly fed up with politicians who sit by and allow a never-ending stream of increases in our bills, all while steady taking money from the very utilities they’re supposed to be overseeing – so now the bill is coming due in these legislative races,”  said Bob Allison, deputy director for the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “This campaign is about electing candidates who will put Michiganders ahead of corporate utility and shareholder profits and stand up for people who have real concerns about unchecked data centers being forced into their communities.”

This newest blitz follows an announcement on Sept. 24 of a $4.8 million campaign focused on the U.S. Senate and gubernatorial elections and includes massive door-to-door canvassing and advertising in five targeted counties.

It continues LCV’s momentum in Michigan, having played pivotal roles in 2024 and 2022 – spending more than $13 million between its national and state affiliates combined in those election cycles.

The 2026 legislative effort targets six pivotal state House districts and three critical battleground state Senate races: HDs 31, 44, 54, 55, 61, 86 and SDs 9, 12 and 30.

The ‘Our Bills Are Too Damn High’ campaign by CVM PAC will send out more than 1 million pieces of mail targeting both absentee and in-person voters, digital ads on streaming services like YouTube, Roku, Hulu, and Comcast, connected TV, as well as Facebook and Instagram.
