And we’ll show you two ways to help. Together, we can be a voice for change and protect Michigan’s land, air, water, public health, and democracy.
In Michigan, corporate special interests and lobbyists wield enormous influence in Lansing – but voters have no way of knowing the full extent of their power.
That’s because Michigan is one of the only states in the country that exempts the governor’s office and state Legislature from the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). This means that financial records, emails, and communications about critical policy decisions that impact our environment, economy, and communities remain hidden from public view.
Bipartisan legislation – Senate Bills 1 and 2 – would finally expand FOIA to hold Michigan’s top elected officials accountable to the people they serve and increase government transparency in our state. These bills have support from across the political spectrum, but special interests don’t want them to pass. We need your help to make sure lawmakers hear from voters who believe the government should serve the public – not just the powerful.
