Attorney General Dana Nessel testified before the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) against the agency’s proposed repeal of its 2009 endangerment finding that greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles contribute to air pollution and to climate change. The Trump Administration’s goal in rescinding this finding is to allow the EPA to erase all existing vehicle emissions standards. This proposal reverses the EPA’s previous findings in a blatant attempt to bolster the fossil fuel industry. Motor vehicle emissions worsen air quality by creating smog while this toxic air pollution is linked to serious health issues, including cancer.

The Trump Administration and the EPA’s continued regulatory confusion are not only harmful to the environment but also to Michiganders, as we cannot rely on the EPA to enforce and implement the Clean Air Act. By speaking out against this proposal, AG Nessel is uplifting the need for continued regulation of air pollution and protecting public health.

Michigan LCV supports AG Nessel in her fight to retain the endangerment finding and her work defending against all harmful federal actions in order to protect public health and our environment.
