Jocelyn Benson’s pick of Winnie Brinks for Lieutenant Governor signals Michigan’s water, health comes first

Lansing, MI — The Michigan League of Conservation Voters (Michigan LCV) today issued the following statement in response to Secretary of State and Michigan LCV-endorsed gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson’s selection of Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks as her running mate for lieutenant governor.

“There are few in the Legislature as tenacious and determined as Winnie Brinks – and she has a long, proven track record of advancing policies that protect Michigan’s water and the health of our communities,” said Lisa Wozniak, president and CEO of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “She rolled up her sleeves and helped deliver Michigan’s landmark clean energy laws in 2023, and she championed a package to address lead in the drinking water of our schools and daycares. As a mom, she cares about how we are leaving Michigan for our children – and it’s reflected by her 98% lifetime Michigan LCV score and historic role as the first woman to serve as Michigan Senate Majority Leader.”

Michigan LCV endorsed Jocelyn Benson for governor on July 6, 2026, based on her strong commitment to protecting the environment, the health of Michigan’s communities, and our democracy. Benson’s environmental platform focuses on securing clean, safe, affordable drinking water for Michigan communities and protecting our Great Lakes from polluters.
