Michigan LCV calls for immediate decommission of Line 5 in light of new damage
Gov. Snyder & Attorney General Schuette must act to protect our Great Lakes
LANSING -Late Friday, Michigan LCV responded to news that Enbridge Energy’s Line 5 twin pipelines sustained additional damage from the April 1, 2018 anchor strike. In addition to three dents, the strike also damaged four areas of coating damage on the twin pipelines, including coating removal and bare metal visible at the point of impact.
“Enough is enough. Enbridge continues to show that it cannot be trusted to operate Line 5 safely,” said Lisa Wozniak, Executive Director at Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “Governor Rick Snyder and Attorney General Bill Schuette both have the power to revoke the easement that allows Enbridge to operate Line 5, and we call on them to take immediate action to protect our Great Lakes and shut down this dangerous pipeline once and for all.”
