And we’ll show you two ways to help. Together, we can be a voice for change and protect Michigan’s land, air, water, public health, and democracy.

In March 2024, Governor Whitmer approved an initial $150 million in state funding to support the reopening of the Palisades nuclear plant. This investment was intended to extend the plant’s lifespan and maintain a source of carbon-free energy for Michigan.
Michigan LCV took a neutral stance on this first round of funding, acknowledging that nuclear power can contribute to reducing emissions but also recognizing that Michigan’s energy future must focus on expanding renewables like wind, solar, and battery storage. While Palisades may provide short-term energy stability, the long-term priority should be transitioning to a modern, sustainable grid.
As Michigan evaluates future energy investments, we continue to advocate for policies that accelerate clean energy development, ensuring that state resources are directed toward the most cost-effective and environmentally responsible solutions.
