Throughout 2024, Attorney General Dana Nessel has been a proactive member of several multistate coalitions defending federal initiatives designed to combat climate change. Notably:
- April 4, 2024: Nessel joined a coalition of 19 attorneys general in filing a motion to intervene in support of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) Final Rule on climate-related disclosures. This rule mandates standardized reporting of climate-related risks, enabling investors to make informed decisions.
- May 24, 2024: She participated in a coalition of 23 attorneys general and four cities to defend the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) greenhouse gas emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles. These standards aim to reduce emissions from freight and delivery trucks, contributing to improved air quality and public health.
- March 21, 2024: Nessel joined a multistate coalition of 21 attorneys general in filing a motion to intervene on behalf of the State of California and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to defend the EPA’s Oil and Gas Methane Rule. This rule seeks to limit methane emissions from the oil and gas industry, a significant contributor to climate change.
