April is Earth Month – a time to celebrate our incredible planet, the natural spaces and resources we cherish, and the importance of protecting our air, land, and water for future generations. Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970 as a response to growing environmental degradation and the urgent need for action. It marked the beginning of a powerful environmental movement that led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and landmark laws like the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act.
Now, just like 50 years ago, this year’s Earth Month is also a call to action. Our environment, economy, and communities are under threat from rollbacks on clean energy progress, weakened environmental protections, and backwards steps on addressing the climate crisis. Now more than ever, we must come together to safeguard Michigan’s natural wonders and the health of our communities.
Throughout April, there are a wide range of events happening across the state, giving you the opportunity to engage with your community, take action, and be part of the movement for a cleaner, healthier future. By participating, advocating for stronger protections, and holding our leaders accountable, we can push back against harmful policies and fight for our future.
