Key Information
Senate Bill 26, sponsored by Sen. Stephanie Chang, would create the Air Quality Enforcement and Mitigation (AQEM) Fund under Michigan’s Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act. This fund, using fines from air quality violations, would finance air monitoring and efforts to hold polluters accountable. It would also primarily fund grants for communities facing disproportionate environmental burdens to mitigate pollution, assess health impacts, and promote education.
