Key Information
SBs 393 and 394 would formally eliminate both the Environmental Science Advisory Board (ESAB) and the Environmental Permit Review Commission (EPRC). The ESAB has already been disbanded by executive order of the Governor so this bill would complete the removal of the board within the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act. The EPRC is responsible for reviewing contested permit applications within EGLE, and may adopt, modify, or reverse staff permit decisions. The EPRC adds an unnecessary layer of environmental permit review by non-expert, unelected boards.
