Key Information
Michigan is the only state without a statewide septic code, with over 1.3 million homes and businesses relying on septic systems that pose public health risks when they fail. SBs 299 and 300 would enact a statewide septic code, create standards and mandate inspections, establish a technical advisory council within EGLE, and open a fund for low or no-interest loans to help upgrade failing systems, protecting both public health, water quality, and increasing property value.
