House bills 4341, 4342, and Senate bill 88 require all schools and childcare facilities to develop a drinking water management plan that is revisited every five years. This will require schools and child-care centers to install water filtration systems, such as filtered water bottle filling stations, at every drinking fountain or faucet used for human consumption to remove contamination.

Schools and childcare facilities would need to develop a regular water testing and filtration replacement schedule – ensuring that children have access to clean, safe drinking water at a crucial time in their physical and mental development. This type of preventative policy assists in providing clean drinking water, protecting children’s health and brain development, while avoiding the exorbitant cost and timeline of replacing all contaminated water service lines and fixtures that serve schools and childcare facilities.
