Key Information

HB 6233 restricts electric vehicle manufacturers from facilitating orders and purchases of their vehicles, including operating galleries that educate consumers and assist with transactions, and instead forces them to sell through an antiquated dealer model that is incompatible with their product. As more start-up EV manufacturers enter the market, it will be critical for them to educate and demonstrate their products to prospective customers in Michigan, particularly because their niche appeal makes it unnecessary and impractical for them to be sold through a dealership model. HB 6233 stifles innovation and the growth of the electric vehicle market at a time when a transition to fully electric transportation is critical to achieving our climate and air quality goals.
