Anti-Voter Signature Requirements

SB 308 would require the Secretary of State to develop and institute a signature verification training for clerks and election inspectors. Within the training, clerks and election inspectors would be specifically instructed not to “presume the validity of signatures,” “accept a suspect signature as valid if it has any redeeming qualities,” or “consider hypothetical situations in which a signature may not match” such as chronic illness or aging. If passed, SB 308 would create an additional barrier to voting, especially for those with disabilities who may have difficulty producing a standardized signature.
