Michigan LCV celebrates Abdullah Hammoud’s historic victory in Dearborn Mayoral race

ANN ARBOR, Mich.  — The Michigan League of Conservation Voters today celebrated state Rep. Abdullah Hammoud’s historic victory in the Dearborn Mayoral election.  Michigan LCV, a key supporter, executed a six-figure independent expenditure campaign for Abdullah that knocked more than 12,000 doors and ran digital advertising.

Rep. Hammoud will take office as Dearborn’s first Arab-American Mayor. Throughout his time in the state Legislature Hammoud has been a staunch advocate for cleaning up Michigan’s drinking water and air, and protecting access to the ballot for all. Hammoud is a former board member of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters Education Fund.

“History was made in Dearborn today with Abdullah Hammoud being elected as Dearborn’s next Mayor. He has been an inspiration to people all across the city by showing them that change is possible. It all starts with us getting civically engaged and participating in elections.” said Salah Ali, a Dearborn resident, Board Member of Michigan LCV Education Fund and an Electrical and Electronics Engineer at Ford Motor Company.  “We wake up with a brighter, more hopeful future now with Abdullah Hamoud as Dearborn’s Mayor. Positive changes are on the horizon; under Hamoud’s leadership, to improve air quality, ensure equitable access to city services and recreation, and invest in Dearborn’s future.”

“Abdullah Hammoud’s win tonight signals a pivotal moment in Dearborn’s history and reflects a monumental shift in the city’s role within southeast Michigan — now led by a proven leader who unflinchingly takes on the tough challenges,” said Lisa Wozniak, executive director for Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “Abdullah will unite Dearborn around upgrading its water infrastructure to stop constant flooding, holding polluters accountable for dirtying the city’s air, and beginning to invest in clean, renewable energy.”

Our Water Our Vote, an initiative by Conservation Voters of Michigan PAC, ran a six-figure independent expenditure campaign in support of Hammoud for Mayor. Over the course of the campaign they knocked 12,337 doors of voters in the city. The campaign also ran targeted digital ads on social media platforms encouraging voters to support Hammoud and make a plan to vote.

The Michigan LCV PAC also supported Hammoud by executing with his campaign multiple volunteer canvasses and phone banks during the primary and general elections. Michigan LCV PAC knocked more than 2,000 doors, talking to voters to urge support for Hammoud.
